Saturday June 3.

I published this, the first of four novels in the D’Angels series, before I left. It’s selling pretty fast among friends and slowly gathering sails into uncharted waters. Rather like myself, sitting in a cottage in Kenmare, County Kerry, still emailing and calling to hustle gigs while I’m in Eire for three months.

Steve and Kerrilyn who I’m touring with are out walking but I’m at the desk as I have been for the past few years, editing the manuscript (the entire thing weighing in at 375,000 words and counting), and generally taking care of the social media. Just discovered a gig I thought was at the Quays in Dublin is actually at the Quays in Galway. A slight miscalculation of a couple of hundred kilometres.

Last night I discovered I’d lost a gig, the booker apparently having decided that a booking was only as good as her friends wanting the date in question and booting me off it. Only found that out by mischance as well. Other than that the tour has been good so far. Ive been in Ireland a fortnight, done two radio interviews, three gigs and eaten a lot of Irish breakfasts. This is the start of a journal I hope to get better at keeping.

Meanwhile here are a few more pics.

Dublin City Rounders, with whom I shared a stage at the Bison Bar in Dublin. They are Rohan and Alex Healy, brilliant players, sons of the my great friend, the wise and esteemed Dave Virgin and his lovely wife Clare. Rohan and Alex run a studio called Beardfire and are two of the busiest men in town.

My mum, Ann Daley, wishing me bon voyage from Ryde. Well actually we were buying fish.

Steve Reynolds, my bandmate from the Verbals and touring partner in Ireland, watching a session of Rebel songs at the Milestone in Balbriggan with Ray, our sometime host and great punk rock fan.

Michael Kiernan, sometime music promoter in the West and a truehearted fellow if ever there was one.
